Indian Students in Australia

Is Australia still safe for International Students despite current racial allegations in Melbourne?

As the lack of racial harmony continues between Indian students and the Australian community in Melbourne, prospective students from abroad, especially Indians, will be wondering, “Is it safe enough for me to live in Australia?”

Although it cannot be overlooked that street mugs do indeed occur to Asian immigrants, international students should be reasonably assured that these attacks have mostly been minor and the government is doing its utmost in not only preventing such attacks and having zero tolerance against any racially motivated attacks but also doing its bid against racism throughout the country.

In a recent report, Deputy Prime Minister Julia Gillard expressed assurance that international students are very welcome to Australia and discrimination of any kind or victimisation against international students will not be tolerated. Efforts by the police such as brief seminars in avoiding trouble through safety strategies are being conducted to aid international students in the preparation for their arrival in Australia.

While it can be perceived that the Australian government is doing as much as they can in keeping the country safe in order to be first-class hosts, street attacks through is no doubt an issue which affects the whole world and in order to keep safe away from home, international students should follow safety strategies carefully and stay out of troubled places.
